I once played through Double Agent. It was my first game on the PS3, back in 2007! The middle-eastern level reminded me of MGS4 trailers, which was my most anticipated game at the time.
Overall I think it's a good game from what I remember and have seen, but the guards don't quite have the level of A.I. as MGS2 and I think you aren't given that many options, as far as I can tell (and remember). But I'd love to check them out some time. Double Agent in particular was cool, because you were undercover and you often had to balance what the NSA wanted and what the terrorists wanted. For instance: terrorist want you to plant a bomb, NSA wants you to disable the bomb. Either way, you gain and lose trust, but it was up to you. That was a cool mechanic that we've never really seen since.
Hitman 2016 and 2018 are different, in that the enemy A.I. isn't as advanced as Metal Gear, but they make up for it with their extremely well designed and intricate levels. You have probably a dozen different opportunities to kill your targets and because of these intricately designed levels they achieve that no two playthroughs are quite the same. Think VR Missions but on a larger scale. And there is also some really cool dark humor.
Have you played Splinter Cell and/ or Hitman? What are your thoughts/ impressions? Any other stealth games worth mentioning?

I have had some time with both, but rather limited playing. Hitman forces you to think to avoid blazing gunfights. But most games also require planning anyway. SC is more stealth over brute force and uses more hi-tech items than violence to solve your problems.
There is also a stealth-action game called Syphon Filter which rips MANY aspects from MGS. Try searching it and see if you like it. Videos are on youtube as well.

As I said, I've finished Double Agent, but pretty much played nothing else, except the first hour or so of Splinter Cell 1. Actually I know Syphon Filter. Actually owned one of them on PSone... and never made it past the first mission xD While I see myself paying Splinter Cell at some point, I'm not interested in Syphon Filter tbh.

Which is fair. Some people criticise it for being too stealth-centric, especially the second game. But personally I'm an avid fan.
