The iconic E3 2000 MGS2 trailer debuted! I still remember downloading it all night on dial up!

Aweseome. I remember how awesome and mind-boggling all the details were. The rain on the first person camera, the rain on Snake himself, the way he changed his steps when he was walking stairs, the way guards coordinated with each other, breakable objects in the environment, hold-ups, lockers, first person aiming, facial animations...
Even today, the game looks pretty good. The atmosphere holds up very well - though that might be nostalgia speaking a little.

I think it holds up very well. Attention to detail and guard AI was in some ways better than many games we see today. Not all games strive for realism. MGS2 was way ahead of its time?

MGS1 originally had the option to switch music tracks in real-time, had pre-rendered CG cutscenes, seemed to have Meryl as a constant partner, and had lockers to open and stuff bodies into, the latter was eventually implemented in MGS2.

Here is a fun fact, Metal Gear Mk 2 was meant to be in MGS1! You can see an icon for it in the 1997 trailer. And Otacon’s profile in the guide book says he created it.
