I just noticed, I never commended you on your main site. Been coming to this site on-and-off for about 12 years, though I only joined later. Anyway, I really like the comprehensive articles and the overall design is great and very fitting for the series, and there are many pictures of packaging, gameplay, character art... Just wanted to take the chance to say, "well done! great site!" Maybe a little off-topic, but I didn't want to start a new thread for this.

Thank you! Always glad to hear folks enjoyed it. Though in all honestly I haven’t really worked on it since 2011. Just been too busy with my job.
It’s funny, everything about that site is so outdated. lol I built some corporate sites with agencies and just makes me chuckle how I did things with MGF. For starters, I had to bake all the text into images. My things kept getting stolen in the early 2000s. In fact, one time this guys copied practically the whole site. Oh the early 2000s fansite wars... fond memories. I’m almost 40 now and a couple of years back I was having lunch with a coworker. The guy is in his early 20s and a big gamer. We bumped into his young friends and he introduced me as that “Metal Gear guy”. They started telling me how cool it was to browse MGF given the age of the site. Seriously, it was like two paleontologists finding a well preserved fossil. lol
While MGF wasn’t the first Metal Gear fansite, even though I started it in 2001 (dear lord, it will be 20 years old next year!), it was the first to cover the whole series. Back then we didn’t have Wikipedia and official web had nothing. So I wanted to make something that treated all the games equally and showed a lot of in-depth info I got from manuals, games and other sources. Today we have Wikipedia, so the fansite concept is outdated. But, I also feel wikis are stark. I like some personality with info. lol
I owe Metal Gear a lot. By being a hardcore fan I taught myself design and web work that translated into a career in the movie field. I still use MGS trailers as inspiration in my video work.

Man, that sucks, that people tried to steal your content. Maybe it is outdated now, but I still think it has a great deal of charm and personality - just like Metal Gear I guess I remember back in 2008 I discovered this site and loved it particularly because it was the only one that focused on just the Kojima games and left out Portable Ops from the main series. It was cool to have found someone who shared my viewpoint - although it's funny how nowadays we happily disagree on MPW and MGSV. I am glad MGS had such a positive impact on your life.

Ironically, even though I didn’t want more games after MGS4, I wanted to like both MPW and MGS5. There were a lot of elements that I liked in MPW and I played the hell out of Ground Zeroes. Though I gotta say when you couldn’t crawl in MPW and the guy flat out said it I was stunned. It’s only been a mechanic since 1990! lol. Oh and in Ground Zeroes you couldn’t knock on walls, another bit from the MG2. Strange choices. Still, if they respected the MSX games more I think I could’ve accepted them. Phantom Pain was a no go all the way. Hated Venom, hated Huey, hated Skullface. And who is that guy poorly pretending to be the Ocelot we all know and love? lol.
Just couldn’t connect with those games the way I did with the earlier ones.
