They did some crazy Gray Fox stuff before, but most of this actually fits!
When you take MGS5 literally there are a lot of inconsistencies. Many we discussed. Some almost feel like obvious mistakes that would never happen in a Metal Gear game. Their research definitely explains much of it and ties into the title of Phantom Pain being inline with how sneaky Kojima is with his hidden meanings.
Why do we see multiple missions and moments multiple times in different ways?
Why do characters feel so different from other games, especially Peace Walker?
Why is Venom/Big Boss the only one that got a voice change from Peace Walker?
Why so many things feel unnatural, like the psychic, man on fire, parasites, Sahelanthropus, wormhole technology?!
Why Ishmael under the bandages clearly has a different face than Big Boss, even though the Truth ending shows them just hours apart?
Why can’t he speak Russian when we know Big Boss is fluent in it?
Why is the landscape so barren?
Why can’t you go inside most structures?
Why is the game so unfinished?
Why are there so many references to the concept of reality?
Why doesn’t Venom talk much and feels more like a spectator?
Well, much of their theory fixes this. And simply put, it didn’t happen this way. We don’t actually know what happened in 1975 and 1984. Both GZ and TPP are jumbled and semi reconstructed memories of the Medic. Like a deep dream where you see pieces. They make sense to you when you are asleep, but are completely illogical when you wake up and think about them. It’s along the lines of AIs messing with Raider’s brain creating a version of Campbell from his expectations.
The only part I’m not sure about are the explanation of when this happens. They suggest it’s after Venom is defeated by Solid Snake. That would seem unnecessary though. Wouldn’t he just die at that point?
Thoughts?
