So with the rumors of the MGS3 remake in the works it got me thinking on the path Konami will take. They are starting with Snake Eater, so I can see them remaking the entire series, adjusting and trimming it. They would likely kill the old numbering.
Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater (remaking MGS3)
Metal Gear Solid …. (New game with elements from MPW and MGS5)
Metal Gear Solid Outer Heaven (remaking and combining MG1 and MG2 as a single game)
Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes (remaking MGS1)
Metal Gear Solid Sons of Liberty (remaking MGS2)
Metal Gear Solid Guns of the Patriots (remaking MGS4)
We know the Fox Engine is no longer going to be used. And MGS5 is too new to remake. I could see them creating a new game between Snake Eater and Outer Heaven that pulls from MPW and MGS5. This could be the start of a new series that uses the original as a base and reworks the story. Perhaps making it more digestible for most gamers.
