Hi all
I have been stuck on Metal Gear for MSX for weeks, I simply cannot figure it out I haave tried everything and worry it might be something in the conversion that makes it impossible
I am playing it on the HD edition for PS3 and am stuck looking for the compass and the O2 cylinder, with level 6 card for opening the doors. I have been given the clues to look for a secret passage in the south west corner in the basement of building 1, where I have already excavated a secret passage which led me back to the main map. I've also been told thatthe compass is on the second foloor. I have an antidote, which I know is for scorpion bites, which I haven't yet used and an antenna meant for using codec in areas with ECM, but I have no way of telling which areas these are, so have tried using it everywhere. Can anyone help or do I have to cheat and look up the answers/ watch a play through?
Many thanks in advance

I can definitely help. The original game had some tricky moments.
First, the O2 cylinder is in building 3. So don’t worry about that for now.
The compass is on floor 2 of building 2. Go east. You will go past the room with the two Bloody Brad androids. Use the east door there again. You will enter an area with two guards and two prison doors. The first door will lead you to a prisoner that will tell you about Jennifer. If you class is at 4 stars you can call her frequency. If you do so right after you exit the first cell, she will give you a rocker launcher that you can use to destroy the Bloody Brad androids. The rocker launcher will be in the second cell in that area, but without ammo.
Once you destroy Bloody Brad, you get card 7. Go north from that room using the door on the right. It’s close to the area where you got the antidote but on the other side of the wall. Call Jennifer when you are here and she will get the compass ready for you. It will be in the room that is in the furthest north east corner of floor 2.
Once you have the compass you can exit building 2 on floor 1. Keep it equipped as you fight through the scorpion desert and that will get you into building 3. Be ready to fight soldiers. Have a plastic explosive ready to blow the wall once you get inside building 3. Take the elevator down and you can find the O2 cylinder behind a wall. Then go back to building 2 and using the O2 go into the aqueduct on floor 1. That will let you swim up the passage. You will need to beat Dirty Duck to get card 8 that will let you go further in building 3. Don’t kill any of the prisoners here!
Make sure you have max rations and max plastic explosives before you head back to building 3. You will need them! And be sure you saved Madnar in building 2 floor 2 so you get the sequence to beat Metal Gear.
Good luck!

Thank you!
Though I did have to 'cheat' by looking online as didn't know whether anyone would respond, and referred back to get Jennifer's frequency. You must have a very good memory!
There is no way in hell I would have figured that out. Possibly because there was quite a big gap in a time between my playing of the game, I didn't realise back then that you would need to know what happened seuentially and where you were at, and also that you needed to note down frequencies and that there are some things you can't go back to. I would literally not have been able to find out her frequency by continuing to play the game as I had already been in that room and freed the hostage
How anyone is supposed to complete this game without help eludes me, I didn't think it would be that if you miss something, and something as minute as that, then there it would be impossible to resolve the puzzle without getting help, have never known a game to become impossible like that! Normally if you keep running around in circles and hitting walls long enough something gives. Have just gone into the scorpion desert now, until next week's session (I only play once a week normally, on Saturday night's)
Thanks again for your help Commander. Will take on board all of that and try not to look elsewhere! Need to accelerate it now so as to make up for lost hours!
Is this game even possible without help?! What the heck is the antenna even for then?! Have been going around everywhere with that!
Cheers
Best regards

Glad to help!
The thing to remember is that it was Kojima’s first game. And back then, writing things down as part of the playthrough was normal. Just wait until you do tap codes in MG2! The antenna is only so you could talk to Big Boss. Once you get into building 2 you he can’t call you unless you have it. You don’t need to keep it equipped though. MG1 was messy, for sure! MG2 is where the series takes its first step into greatness. Probably the best 2D game I’ve ever played. And the soundtrack is amazing.
I know theses games very well as I play them regularly. If you get stuck just let me know.

Many thanks again. Going to have another go at it again
Thanks also for the heads up n MG2, I wasn't really planning on playing it but I will now. The soundtrack to Metal Gear is what absolutely makes it! Never have I managed to play for such a long time as on MG1 with that same music in the background that I first heard on the VR training part of MGS2. Was so excited when I first played it and that came on!
Have got a slew of retro games to work through but will defnitely now factor that in. I have been going by the mindset that if I were playing this when it came out I would not have had the internet to get help from but then other people would have then been playing it too so I would probably have got help from them. I don't feel so alone in this mission now haha. And thankfully can now get on with it. Will be sure to keep checking in periodically if not just for moral support!
Best regards
