I don't think future consoles will support PS1 and PS2 disks. Doesn't make sense. They are selling both on PSN now. Plus some come back in HD Collections.
Now, with all this formatted for the PS3, they only need to make PS4 backwards compatible to PS3. That's been my point. Things updated for the current gen will live in future releases.

Well, I dunno AG. Sony has made some very funny decisions (no rumble, taking out the PS2 backward compatibility from the PS3...) in the past.
Basically, because they have a long history of supporting the PS1 disks (PS2 AND PS3), I'm just trying to say that I wouldn't be surprised if the PS4 ends up playing PS1 disks too.
You gotta admit that, as much as it does not make sense, knowing Sony, it is STILL a possibility.

Anything is possible. But now that they are cashing in on PSN downloads of these games I just don't see them putting money into PS4 supporting actual disks from PS 1 & 2.

The Document of MGS2 and Snake vs Ape and Secret Theatre are the biggest loss for me... I think Snake vs Ape, Snakeboarding and Guy Savage were left out because of copiright reasons - but Secrets Theatre and Document? Why not include that? And I also think, there should have been an option in MG2 to play with the original character portraits...

The document of MGS2 hasn't been re-released ether. I really wish VR Missions would make it's way to PSN, i would love to play it. Aren't VR missions available on MGS2's HDC? I SWEAR I have spent almost 70 f...ckin hours trying to score 1st place in those goddamn missions!

Back in 2012, they weren't. But with the release of the Legacy Collection ~18 months ago they are now.

I'm not too sure about this but I remember seeing some sort of 'document' in the main menu for MGS2. I will check it out because I recall there was a 'document for MGS2'.

google "The Document of Metal gear Solid 2". It was an interactive making of disc for the PS2 where you had 360 degree views f character and environmental models, the gameplan (essentially the screenplay) and a whole bunch of other stuff that let you really glimpse behind the scenes.

I wonder why the f...ck Kojima and team would ignore all this material from the HDC. Given the PS3 being more technologically advanced than its predecessors, how the hell could he NOT squeeze all this sh*t into the disc?!!

I think it's mostly because of licencing issues. The original character portraits and character names were pop culture homages of the 1980s. Maybe they were afraid of lawsuits by the actors, whose likenesses were used (without any sort of consent). The Skatebparding minigame was essentially a demo for another Konami game, Evolution Skateboarding, Snake vs Monkey was a crossover between Metal Gear Solid and the Ape Escape series. Guy Savage was also an abandoned project of one of the co-developers of MGS3 I think. And the Online modes were cancelled, because the servers are no longer active. However, I have no idea why they left out the incredibly funny secret theatre cutscenes.

Maybe Kojima purposely wanted to spite his hardcore fanatics lmfao

Ohhh...kay. How so? Because he didn't violate someone elses copyright because he did not put stuff on the disc to which he no longer had the licence? That's just silly.

I find it f...cking hilarious how Kojima invests so much time into telling a sh*tty story with those CODEC's and cutscenes, but intentionally cuts out sh*t from his games. Case in point: -Document of MGS2 has three/four videos which have a disclaimer that reads "Video meant for internal use only, not intended for release to the public". -MGS1 originally had the option to switch music tracks in real-time, had pre-rendered CG cutscenes, seemed to have Meryl as a constant partner, and had lockers to open and stuff bodies into, or hide (later implemented in MGS2). -MGS4 originally ended with Snake and Otacon surrendering before being executed. The worst parts are when the games hit you with the combos: Take two steps into a new room, enter mandatory codec convo which lasts 10 minutes, instantly enter 20 minute cutscene, come back to gameplay only to enter another mandatory codec which lasts 5 minutes, take 10 steps into next room, rinse & repeat. It can be REALLY tedious. God I hope Konami sheds enough sh*t from MGS5 and that the story is a LOT less f...cking puzzling than Inception. (On that note, Kojima could tell a PERFECT story in MGS1 with what, 3~4 hours of CODEC's/ cutscenes? Why the f...ck can't he do that now? Did anyone forget how after MGS4's Chapter 2 ended, Chapter 3 and onwards barely had any gameplay in them? There was literally like a 70-to-30 ratio between cutscenes and gameplay in those chapters.) Yeah, I have to agree here. Those were f...cking hilarious!
