Well, I went out and bought a PS3. After doing some research I decided on the 60 GB version. I don't need the big hardrive since I'm not really a big gamer nor do I plan to do much online gaming. But a guarantee of good playability of the PSone and PS2 game is a must for me. So the version that has the PS2 Emotion Engine included is the one for me.
So I got it... DANG! This succer is huge! Makes the old Xbox look small! And the PS2... the old TOWER of POWER... it's a midget next this monster!
I tested the old games. PS2 works wonderful, but MGS1 was flickering badly and the the picture looked like sh*t! Played around with settings and the issue was some PS1/PS2 filter that had to be turned on. After that it was AMAZING picture quality.
Even surfed the net for a bit! Great seeing MGF on a TV screen! LOL! I gotta say, this baby is high tech... very advanced. And the glossy surfase is just so futuristic. Sadly, no MGS4 just yet, but I can wait.
Some of you may want to look into getting the 60 GB, they aren't gonna make anymore. What's in stores is all there will be. Once it sells out, only the 80 GB will be left. And that one does not have the Emotion Engine in it. Why? Production Costs cut by Sony in the attempt to be in a position to lower prices. But to me the 80 GB is just incomplete. It's missing a vital feature IMO.
Anway, great stuff! Any suggestions for my first PS3 game?

I don't think there's anything out that you would like AG.
You can try Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion or Resistance: Fall of Man but there isn't really anything out for the PS3 thats interesting at this time.
Congrats on your PS3.

Good work. Finally someone besides me on the forum has a PS3. hahahah
I would definitely recommend Resistance FOM!!!! TOP GAME! You can play the single mode in CO-OP. And online is HEAPS fun!
And for a second game Motor storm is fun but it gets a bit repetitive.
If you hold out a little bit longer some realy good games are coming out....

HDTV - No, not yet. Soon though.
Cables - yes, just the standards. Should I get something different when I get the HDTV?

GOD YES!
If you use those sh*t cables that came with the TV you cant transfer high definition signal. What you need to do is buy any standard HMDI cable or a PS3 Component Cable 3rd party is fine.
If your HD TV has HMDI which is should if its a decent tv then get HMDI if it does then Component is the next best choice.
Believe me the PS3 looks sh*t compared to what it looks like 16:9 on a 1080p HDTV. Even running on 720p looks f...cking amazing. The MINIMUM you wan IS 720p Anything higher is good.
The PS3 pritty much forced me to buy a HDTV after i saw what it was capable of.

Actually, AG just sacrificed his food expenses for the rest of the year in order to buy it. ;D
After I played FoM online at my friends, I never wanted to leave. It really is loads of fun.

We'll be getting an HDTV soon. Can't wait to see the PS3 at it's best! Make sure you come here and tell us before you buy it that way I can tell you if your getting a HDTV that's actually good. You will notice stores slapping on a "HDready" sticker on any LCD or PLASMA but there actually sh*t and cant get a HD resolution.

Hey, if you don't wasted money and budget properly it's not really that big of a deal. I gotta say though the expression on the GameStop clerks faces was priceless! I just slaped down 6 $100 bills and said, "give me the 60 GB PS3". I'm not rich, by no means, but I make ok money. Plus I don't really spend that much so I can afford to do this. Like my trip to Russia in July... with the passports that was close to a 2K deal. But proper budgeting does do wonders.

I personally think PS3 was a big mistake that wouldn't be if it weren't released so soon..

Nothing. You want me to say something about you getting one? Well, at least you're one step closer to MGS4. Other than that, I don't know.

I personally view the 80 GB version as a product of desperation. Sony is not adding anything new to the system and in fact REMOVING something from the original design. The Emotion Engine is part of the original concept of the PS3, so to me the 80 GB version is downright incomplete.
